Having trouble getting your vehicle started ?

There may be an issue with your vehicles starter motor or alternator that is causing the vehicle not to start, see below for an explanation of the possible symptoms that can arise from either component failure.

ALTERNATORS : The job of the alternator is to keep your vehicles battery up to charge while the engine is running to keep all of your vehicles electrics operating at their optimum.

When an alternator fails your battery will slowly run down in charge (a battery warning lamp will illuminate in most cases) and ultimately the engine wont have enough electrical power to keep firing and will stall, it can also run a battery down enough to be unable to turn the engine over while trying to start the vehicle, this can sometimes be mistaken as a faulty battery.

We can quickly test your alternators voltage output to determine the condition of the component, a healthy charge rate is between 13.5v and 14.8v at idle in most vehicles.

Atlink will then be able to make an accurate diagnosis on what repairs will be necessary, whether that be repairing your alternator or providing and installing a new or exchange unit.

STARTER MOTORS : When you turn your ignition key a small electric motor is engaged via your ignition switch and a relay and cranks the motor at a speed fast enough to start the engine.

When a starter motor fails it can sometimes start as an intermittent fault indicated by an audible clicking sound only whilst trying to start the engine with no actual cranking of the engine at all, or in other cases it may sound like you have a flat battery even though you have a new or fully charged battery.

Atlink can come to your vehicle and test to make sure the starter motor is being supplied sufficient power and earth to operate the starter motor and the solenoid.

If sufficient power and a reliable earth is determined then we will then be able to make an accurate diagnosis on what repairs will be necessary, whether that be repairing your starter motor or providing and installing a new or exchange unit.
